About...
...the Movie
City Lights is a silent movie that was released in 1931 and written, directed, and starring Charlie Chaplin, one of the, if not
the leading men of silent comedy. Chaplin, as his famous character "The Tramp," falls in love with a blind woman (Virginia Cherrill), only to find out that she thinks he is a millionaire. When hard times come around, the Tramp finds any means to earn the money for her.
With a good mix of comedy and emotion, many regard this as Chaplin's best, particularly the ending.
“...the greatest piece of acting and the highest moment in movies.”
-critic James Agee
And Chaplin himself said,
...in “City Lights” just the last scene...I’m not acting....Almost apologetic, standing outside myself and looking...It’s a beautiful scene, beautiful, and because it isn’t over-acted.
On
AFI's 100 Years....100 Movies list revealed in 1998, it came in at 76th place but on the
tenth anniversary edition, it leaped to number 11. In 2008, AFI also revealed "10 Top 10", a countdown of movies in ten top categories.
City Lights came in at number one of
romantic comedy films.
...fanlistings
A fanlisting is, quite simply, a listing of fans. Fanlistings are similar to any other group or club you might join. You can join a fanlisting to 'show your love of something.' Most fanlistings have small codes, buttons, or plaques available which you can display on your own website if you'd like. Our site definition of a fanlisting is: "A fanlisting is simply an online list of fans of a subject, such as a TV show, actor, or musician, that is created by an individual and open for fans from around the world to join. There are no costs, and the only requirements to join a fanlisting are your name and country. Fanlistings do not have to be large sites (although some are); they are just a place where you can sign up with other fans. TheFanlistings.org is the original (but not official) web directory for fanlistings, dedicated to uniting the fans."
